DESCRIPTION:

This tour will begin in beautiful Whitefish, Montana. Near the western gates of Glacier National Park, Whitefish, is a sleepy mountain and lake community. Begin by spending a day riding the local trails at the Whitefish Bike Retreat. Before heading into the backcountry we will cover topics like navigation, packing your bike, backcountry safety, and the ever-so-important, food and nutrition. You'll have a chance to get hands on help setting up and optimizing your bikepacking rig before taking off.

As you pedal north you'll encounter crystal clear lakes, rugged mountains and dense forest. The mountain top views of Glacier National Park are truly stunning. Enjoy a night at the North Fork Hostel in the small town of Polebridge. The iconic Polebridge Mercantile and Bakery is a must stop, the huckleberry bear claws are something special.

Headed back towards elevation gain you will conquer one more pass and experience a night under the stars at a primitive mountain top campground. Be sure to take in the views as you zoom down the gravel roads back to Whitefish where we will finish the tour where we started, at the Whitefish Bike Retreat.

For many, this tour can serve as a week of intro to bikepacking and for others, a way to get into the backcountry without worrying about logistics. Please keep in mind that whether you are new to touring, have bikepacked before, or are trying to transition from road touring this tour will be great for anyone. We can all learn new tricks of the gravel road from each other while experiencing a unique touring opportunity!
